Barcelona rejects Marcus Rashford permanent transfer
Barcelona will not trigger the €30m purchase option for Marcus Rashford despite his role in their La Liga title win. The decision follows the big-money arrival of Anthony Gordon, leaving the Manchester United loanee surplus to requirements.

FC Barcelona has opted against exercising the permanent purchase option for Marcus Rashford, signaling the end of the Manchester United winger's tenure at the club, per reports from MARCA.
Rashford’s time in Catalonia, which began with a loan agreement for the 2025/2026 campaign, concludes with the Englishman claiming his first domestic league title, according to Marca.
This move followed a prior loan spell at Aston Villa during the 2024–25 season and was precipitated by his diminished status at Manchester United. Effectively exiled from the first team under manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford, who is contracted to United until 2028, originally prioritized the Barcelona move in hopes of reviving his career in La Liga under head coach Hansi Flick.
However, despite a productive return of 14 goals and 14 assists that proved instrumental in Barça's La Liga and Spanish Super Cup double, the club has declined to trigger the $35 million (€30 million) purchase clause.
This strategic shift is largely driven by the arrival of Anthony Gordon at the Spotify Camp Nou. Barcelona surprised the football world two weeks ago by executing a rapid $80.85 million (€70 million) transfer for the former Newcastle United forward.
With both players occupying the same position, and set to compete for that identical role for England at the upcoming World Cup, Rashford is now viewed as surplus to requirements, especially as the star attacker Raphinha also features prominently on the left flank.
