Wilfried Nancy targeted for Ligue 1 return with FC Lorient

Unattached since his January departure from Celtic, Wilfried Nancy appears poised for a return to management. According to reports from Mohamed Toubache-Ter, the Frenchman has emerged as a serious contender for a vacancy in Ligue 1.

Nancy has been transparent regarding his ambition to coach in the French top flight, a goal he reaffirmed during a recent interview with RMC Sport. “It’s true that, in the past three years, there’s been no reason to complain because French clubs wanted to work with me. It is a question of timing, and the timing wasn’t right at the time. Now, I want to come to Ligue 1, if there is an opportunity. I am not the one who decides, but I am ready,” he disclosed last month.

A potential opening has now materialized at FC Lorient. The club is seeking a successor to Olivier Pantaloni, whose tenure was defined by an immediate promotion followed by a respectable mid-table finish. Despite this success on the pitch, Pantaloni chose not to renew his contract upon its expiration, citing a perceived lack of trust from the Breton club’s hierarchy.

While former Southampton manager Will Still was previously considered the frontrunner for the position at the Moustoir, he now appears destined to replace Christophe Pélissier at AJ Auxerre. Consequently, Toubache-Ter suggests that Nancy has surfaced as a primary candidate for Lorient’s ownership group, BKFC.
